FreeAgent pricing

What FreeAgent costs by business type, why some UK customers pay nothing, and the discounts and add ons that change the real bill.

FreeAgent prices by the shape of your business rather than by feature tier, which is unusual and suits its core UK audience of freelancers, contractors and small limited companies. There are three rates: Sole Trader, Partnership or LLP, and Limited Company, each giving full access with the features matched to that structure. Because FreeAgent is owned by NatWest, the standout twist is that it is free for life if you hold a business current account with NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank or Mettle, which is how many UK users get it at no cost. All published prices exclude 20 percent VAT, and a 50 percent discount applies for the first six months. The figures below are list rates as of June 2026; check the vendor for current pricing.

What moves the real bill

Your business type and your bank decide what FreeAgent costs

FreeAgent's bill is driven less by features than by who you are and where you bank. Four factors to weigh before you subscribe.

Your business structure. FreeAgent charges by type, so the same software costs 19 pounds a month for a sole trader, 27 for a partnership or LLP, and 33 for a limited company, all excluding VAT. There is no cheaper feature limited tier, so your legal structure sets your price; budget against the rate for your structure, not the lowest figure.
Whether you bank with NatWest group. This is the big one. FreeAgent is free for life if you hold a business current account with NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank or Mettle. For many UK freelancers and small companies that turns the monthly fee to zero, so it is worth checking before paying, though you take on that bank relationship in exchange.
VAT and the intro discount. All listed prices exclude 20 percent VAT, so the real monthly cost is higher than the headline unless you reclaim it. Against that, a 50 percent discount applies for the first six months, which softens the start. Net the two effects when you compare FreeAgent with VAT inclusive rivals.
Add ons. Optional extras sit on top of the plan, such as a Smart Capture add on for receipt handling and integrations like Amazon UK, each a few pounds a month plus VAT. None are essential, but if you rely on them, add them to the base rate so the comparison is fair.
Pricing questions

FreeAgent pricing FAQ

How much does FreeAgent cost?

As of June 2026, FreeAgent costs 19 pounds a month for sole traders, 27 for partnerships or LLPs, and 33 for limited companies, all excluding 20 percent VAT, with a 50 percent discount for the first six months. It is free for life with a qualifying NatWest group business account. Check the vendor for current pricing.

Is FreeAgent really free with some banks?

Yes. Because NatWest owns FreeAgent, it is free for life if you hold a business current account with NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank or Mettle. You get the same full software with no monthly fee, for as long as you keep the qualifying account. Verified June 2026.

Why does FreeAgent price by business type?

FreeAgent tailors features to your legal structure, so instead of feature tiers it charges one rate each for sole traders, partnerships or LLPs, and limited companies. Each plan includes the tax and reporting tools that structure needs, which is why a limited company pays more than a sole trader for the same product family.

Is FreeAgent only for the UK?

Largely, yes. FreeAgent is built around UK tax, including Self Assessment, VAT and Making Tax Digital, and its bank feeds and integrations are UK focused. Businesses outside the UK are generally better served by Xero, QuickBooks Online or Zoho Books. Check vendors for current pricing and regional fit.
